This original November 26, 1926, Wide World Photos press photograph captures legendary British aviator Sir Alan Cobham and his wife upon landing in New York City. Fresh from his celebrated England–Australia flight, Cobham arrived on a short lecture tour, flying a small aircraft from the ocean liner Homeric before she reached port. The image shows the couple standing on the deck after landing at The Battery, with Cobham wearing his aviation gear and his wife in a stylish fur-trimmed coat.
This historic photo not only commemorates one of the most famous long-distance flights of the 1920s, but also reflects the era's fascination with aviation pioneers whose daring feats bridged continents.
