This original May 12, 1930, International Newsreel press photograph captures six members of the Marvel Crosson Glider Club, assembled in tribute to pioneering woman aviator Marvel Crosson following her tragic death in the 1929 Women’s Transcontinental Air Derby. Taken at the Women’s Air Meet in Culver City, California, the image shows Dorothy Whitney, Maude Gilmore, Margaret Cary, Anna D. Hansen, Gladys Dawson, and Evelyn Porter — all wearing matching flight coveralls — posed proudly beside their training glider.

The detailed press caption on the reverse provides full identification and event details, adding to its research and display value. Early images of organized women’s aviation groups, particularly in the realm of gliding, are exceedingly rare. This photograph is a tangible link to the bold women who helped shape aviation history.
