Original volunteer headquarters building pass issued during the 1968 U.S. presidential campaign of Richard M. Nixon and Spiro T. Agnew, under the organization United Citizens for Nixon-Agnew. This red cardstock badge, dated October 8, 1968, granted access to the National Headquarters at the Willard Hotel in Washington, D.C., a key site for campaign organizing in the final weeks before the election.
The card is hand-inscribed with the volunteer’s name, Ruth Bacon, and volunteer number #105, and is signed by Charles S. Rhyne, the national chairman of the organization. Rhyne was a notable attorney and political figure who played an influential role in Republican legal affairs. This building pass is a rare survivor from inside the operations of Nixon’s successful 1968 campaign, which culminated in his election as the 37th President of the United States.
Campaign-issued materials from the Nixon-Agnew team are highly collectible, especially those tied to official headquarters operations. This pass offers a tangible link to the electoral mobilization efforts of the turbulent 1968 election, a pivotal year in U.S. political history.
