This rare interwar aviation press photograph captures pilot Kronciss seated proudly atop his prize-winning aircraft D-1221 at the Leipzig-Mockau Airfield, Germany. The event, a prestigious lightweight aircraft competition, awarded prizes totaling 30,000 marks—significant recognition in Weimar-era sport aviation.

The backdrop features the clearly marked hangar of “Leipziger Luftschiffhafen & Flugplatz A.-G.”, confirming the location. The aircraft itself, a sleek light sport monoplane, represents the wave of experimental and efficient designs emerging in Germany during the late 1920s and early 1930s as civil aviation rebuilt after WWI.

The reverse carries the original press caption:
"Winner of the [illegible] light-weight airplane contest in Leipzig Mockau. Photo shows one of the pilots Kronciss, who won one of the prizes of 30 thousand marks."

A faint New York Times archive stamp adds provenance, suggesting this image was distributed internationally for coverage of the competition.

This photograph is a compelling artifact of Weimar-era civil aviation history, highlighting the blend of sport flying, engineering innovation, and international interest in German aircraft design.
