Original real photo postcard showing a sailplane in flight above the Fischbecker Heide, a heathland near Hamburg, Germany. The image, captioned “Segelflug in der Fischbecker Heide”, depicts an early training glider soaring over rolling hills and scrub vegetation.
The reverse of the card is postmarked 30 October 1934 with two Deutsches Reich 3 Pfennig stamps. A handwritten message from the Fischbeck glider camp (Segelfliegerlager) sends greetings:
“Aus dem Fischbecker Segelfliegerlager sendet Ihnen Allen freundliche Grüße, Ernst Wagner.”
(“From the Fischbeck glider camp, sending you all friendly greetings, Ernst Wagner.”)
The publisher imprint reads Kunstverlag Kumm Gebr., Hamburg 8. Additional printed text advertises Pension D. Oelkers, Gasthof Fischbeck, highlighting its location directly by the Fischbecker Heide, a site noted for its gliding activity in the interwar years.
This postcard is a period artifact that captures both the local aviation culture and the broader growth of gliding in Germany during the 1930s. For historians and collectors, it represents the intersection of regional aviation, leisure, and early flight training.
